Christine East has a Bachelor of Education Degree and a long background in teaching. Since 1994, when she studied for a Diploma in Advanced Professional Studies to teach children and young people with Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia). She has worked with many students whose learning style is different from the conventional. She became aware from the start that people with dyslexia absorb information in a multitude of ways which are, not necessarily, the most accepted ways in most schools – i.e. via the written word.
Upon gaining her Diploma and Associate membership of the BDA, Christine started a private practice with students who exhibited dyslexic tendencies. In 1999, she came across the book ‘The Gift of Dyslexia’ by Ron Davis and had profound sympathy with the principles behind and the methods described in this book. The parent of the student who had introduced her to the book asked her to attend on the last day of her son’s programme in order to learn how to support him in the follow-up work. The way of working and the use of clay impressed her.

When she was asked to take up a part-time
post at a local school, Christine began to try out the Davis methods
using the instructions in the book ‘The Gift of Dyslexia’
and found that they worked extremely well. Therefore, during the year
2000, she attended all the necessary workshops to complete the training
and became a facilitator, licensed to carry out the Davis(R) Dyslexia
Correction Programme.
Since then, Christine has used the methods
most successfully in the school and with private clients.
