Life with dyslexia can be frustrating and very disheartening. This can lead to stress in the workplace or at school, which in turn can lead to health problems. By approaching dyslexia differently, fear of failure and low self-esteem can be replaced by an increase in confidence and a better quality of life.

The Davis(R) Dyslexia Correction Programme was developed by Ronald Davis to overcome his own learning difficulties. The rationale for this method is explained in his book ‘The Gift of Dyslexia’.

Ron Davis identified that there are ‘word thinkers and ‘non-word thinkers’ and this affects the way we learn. People who develop dyslexia are ‘picture thinkers’. This is true of all of us before we become literate. However, some people fail to be able to think in terms of symbols when they get to school. Their eyes are continuously looking for 3D clues without realising that they need to deal with 2D symbols. It is at this point when they are feeling very confused that the emotional issues kick in. They try desperately to develop strategies to cope.

By dealing with this confusion, the Davis(R) Dyslexia Correction programme helps the individual to discover his/her innate gift and to apply it to the learning difficulty. In this way the blockages to effective learning are removed. Clients are shown how to clear up confusions regarding letters, numbers, words and language symbols and are aided in the process by the use of clay.
